Abstract

One of the major challenges in Li-ion batteries is to reduce the internal resistance, which would enable faster (dis)charging and higher energy densities. In article number 1500498, Marnix Wagemaker and co-workers report that through the interaction of thermal neutrons with Li, operando neutron depth profiling allows observation of Li-concentration profiles in Li-ion electrodes, thereby revealing what charge transport processes limit the internal resistance under what conditions. This provides direction towards future battery design.
