Dissolution Kinetics of Nuclear Fuels 1. Uranium
Source abstract
Abstract
Dissolution of uranium has been studied by potentiostatic and galvanostatic anodic polarization techniques. Uranium exhibits active-passive behavior in nitric acid, sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide. Transpassive dissolution of uranium in acid occurs without gas evolution, giving high current efficiency. At constant potential, transpassive dissolution rate increases with increasing temperature and decreasing acid concentration. These data are discussed in terms of uranium fuel element dissolution processes.
