Abstract

In article number 1401770, Peter Müller-Buschbaum and co-workers discuss the effect of Fe3O4 nanoparticles on the performance of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):[6,6]-phenyl-C60-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) solar cells. The strong spin-orbit coupling induced by the presence of heavy atoms populates the triplet state, which presents a longer lifetime and, hence, a longer diffusion length. This migration between excitonic states causes the doped devices to show lower recombination rates. Cover image by Christoph Hohmann, Nanosystems Initiative Munich (NIM).
