Corrosivity of Carbon Steel in Concentrated Chloride Solution
Source abstract
Abstract
The effect of pH (from neutral to moderately acidic solutions) and temperature (from 25 to 200 C) on the corrosion rate of carbon steel in deaerated 4M NaCl is described. Corrosion rates were estimated by extrapolation of anodic and cathodic Tafel lines back to the corrosion potential and by measurement of polarization resistance. A refreshed, stirred titanium autoclave system is described which permits electrochemical measurements to be made up to at least 200 C in corrosive aqueous saline media. A relatively simple numerical correlation describes the data over the entire temperature and pH range.
