Abstract

Abstract In the face of the urgent need for sustainable building materials in global road engineering and the environmental pressure of bamboo processing waste accumulation, this study proposes a technical path to convert bamboo residue fiber into asphalt mixture reinforcement material. Through a rutting test, low temperature bending test, immersion Marshall test, and freeze-thaw splitting test, the thermal stability and road performance of bamboo residue fiber, lignin fiber, and polyester fiber were compared, and the influence of three kinds of fibers on the asphalt mixture performance was revealed. The results show that the thermal stability of bamboo residue fiber-modified asphalt is 3.6% higher than that of matrix asphalt. The high temperature stability of the mixture increased by 67.1%, which was better than that of polyester fiber and lignin fiber. In terms of water stability, the residual stability and splitting strength are 1.2% and 5.6% higher than those of polyester fiber mixture. Low temperature crack resistance has also been improved. These results not only show that bamboo residue fiber is superior to traditional fiber in many performance indicators but also highlight its potential as a new type of road material in synergistically solving high-performance and environmental protection needs. Bamboo residue fiber is derived from renewable waste resources, which can effectively promote the low-carbon recycling of road materials. Its application shows significant advantages and broad prospects. At the same time, it has the dual benefits of enhancing pavement performance and reducing environmental pollution. Bamboo residue fiber provides a reliable technical path for the high-value utilization of bamboo waste and the green and low-carbon development of road engineering.
