Abstract

The precise modulation of magnetic coupling in spinel ferrites is essential for magnetoelectronic applications. This study investigates Li0.5Cr0.1Al0.1Fe2.3-xLaxO4 (x=0-0.05) nanocrystals synthesized via a sol-gel method. Rietveld refinement and Williamson-Hall analysis reveal that large-radius La3+ ions occupy octahedral (B) sites, inducing lattice expansion and stabilizing grains at ~35 nm via solute-atom pinning. Notably, a 'spontaneous occupancy compensation' occurs near x=0.03, where La3+-induced strain drives Fe3+ migration from A to B sites, leading to an inversion peak in saturation magnetization (Ms). Furthermore, 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy combined with the Yafet-Kittel model demonstrates that spin non-collinearity, driven by enhanced B-B interactions, limits the net magnetic moments at higher doping levels. These results elucidate the role of strain-field-driven electronic reconfiguration in magnetic regulation, providing a microscopic paradigm for the precision tailoring of soft magnetic ferrites.
