Abstract

A novel gas sensing material, La–Y co-doped TiO2 nanoparticles, was synthesized by sol–gel method and applied to detect organic pollutants 2-chlorophenol. The products have been characterized through XRD, FESEM, TEM, HRTEM and ICPOES technologies. The sensor fabricated by 0.2 mol% La and 0.2 mol% Y co-doped TiO2 nanoparticles presented good gas sensing activity to 2-chlorophenol with short response-recovery time and long stability. The results demonstrated that the co-doping of La–Y and ratio of rutile to anatase in TiO2 nanoparticles, which play a key role in high sensitivity to 2-chlorophenol. It suggested that the rare earth ions La–Y co-doped TiO2 nanoparticles might be a capable gas sensing material to evaluation organic pollutants in future.
