Advanced oxidative degradation of brilliant blue G dye by Ag-doped cadmium sulfide immobilized starch bionanocomposite
Source abstract
Abstract
Brilliant Blue G (BBG) is one of the toxic dyes which is widely used in various industries and causes water and environmental pollution. Thus, it is a significant challenge to remove the BBG dye from wastewater due to its persistence and toxicity. Herein, we reported the advanced oxidative degradation (AOD) process for the removal of BBG dye from wastewater using novel strategies. In this context, we reported the benign synthesis of silver-doped cadmium sulfide immobilized on a starch based bionanocomposite (Ag-CdS@St BNC). The physicochemical features of the synthesized Ag-CdS@St BNC were analyzed by various sophisticated methods such as XRD, SEM, EDX, TEM, UV-vis, CV, XPS, and PL. The synthesized Ag-CdS@St BNC has decent optical band gap of 2.41 eV which is relatively lower than that of the pristine CdS (2.88 eV). The photocatalytic activity of the Ag-CdS@St BNC was investigated under visible light irradiation which demonstrated significant removal of BBG dye in comparison to the CdS or Ag NPs. The kinetic studies revealed that the removal of BBG dye followed a pseudo-first-order model using Ag-CdS@St BNC. The improved photocatalytic activity of the Ag-CdS@St BNC may be attributed the desirable morphological properties of the synthesized catalyst and presence of synergism in the prepared Ag-CdS@St BNC. The Ag-CdS@St BNC also demonstrated excellent reusability study which indicated the good stability of the Ag-CdS@St BNC.
