Development of a Mathematical Model for the Calculation of the Pressure Drop in Extrusion Dies
Source abstract
Abstract
Analytical approaches for calculating the pressure drop in extrusion dies are limited because they are only applicable in ideal flow channel geometries. In finite element calculations the pressure drop in different flow channels was determined. Parallel the cross section of those geometries was calculated, transformed into the ideal form of a slit or circle and analytical calculations were done. From the results a correction function was derived. This enables realistic pressure drop calculation by applying simple analytical equations.
