Reorientation-induced plasticity (RIP) in titanium alloys
Source abstract
Abstract
This study used in-situ scanning electron microscopy to investigate the mechanisms of α′ reorientation-induced plasticity of Ti–4.5Al–2.5Fe alloy. The reorientation occurred directly or indirectly, with both pathways involving various α′ twinning events. The reorientation relationship among 12 α′ variants was analyzed based on β orientation, revealing four distinct β orientation regimes. Subsequently, the reorientation activity was assessed within these specified regimes. This activity depends on prior β orientation, directly determining the interaction energy and twin activity, especially {1¯011}〈101¯2〉α′ twinning. The reorientation of α′ variants, which possess an orientation close to the {1¯011}〈101¯2〉α′ twinning of α′ variants possessing the highest interaction energy, is essential for both reorientation activity and mechanical behavior. The derived results are closely aligned with experimental observations.
