The role of buckled molecules for THz dynamics of network glasses
Source abstract
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to lay a foundation for understanding the mechanism which naturally explains the peculiar dynamics of network glasses observed at THz frequencies and below. These are the increased inelastic scattering of light and neutrons at THz frequencies, the so-called Boson peak, as well as the T-linear specific heat, the plateau in thermal conductivity, and its subsequent rise above the plateau temperature. It is pointed out that the strongly localized coupled-vibrations of buckled molecules with neighbouring atoms/molecules with the nature of optic modes play a key role for peculiar dynamics of glasses.
