A report on the Bangladesh pulp and paper industry

Ramesh Chandra Gupta

Abstract

Bangladesh has weathered the Asian economic woes better than many of its Eastern neighbors, but the paper industry there is grappling with a number of other challenges. Natural disasters, out-dated equipment, and a shortage of investment capital are just a few of the problems mills there must deal with. This report gives an overview of the current economic and political conditions affecting the pulp and paper industry in Bangladesh. It looks at the existing mill structure and highlights plans for new production. It anticipates an increase in demand for paper products as the general standard of living improves within the country.
