Abstract

The emission properties of crystalline thin films of oligothiophenes (OT) containing an even number of rings have been re-investigated within the framework of the theory of the pinwheel aggregates. The theory predicts that, because of the presence of a component of the transition moment perpendicular to the long molecular axis, the bottom of the exciton band is allowed and can become superradiant in highly ordered crystals as indeed observed.
