Abstract

We used the Z-scan technique to study for the first time the non-linear refractive index n 2 and the non-linear absorption coefficient β of a new poly(hetero-arylene-ethynylene) (DAME45) and a derivative with an added Ru 2+ -complex (TP076). The measurements were performed with 130 fs pulses from an amplified Ti:sapphire system at 800 nm (DAME45) and 1200 nm (TP076) by the use of an optical parametric amplifier. For DAME45 we got n 2 = -3.2×10 -13 cm 2 /W and β = 4.5×10 -g cm/W and for TP076 we received n 2 = 3.1×10 -14 cm 2 /W and β = 1.2×10 -9 cm/W.
