Observations supporting a modified common redox mechanism of conducting polymers
Source abstract
Abstract
The redox transformation process of different conducting polymers was studied by combined in situ (spectroelectrochemistry, EQCM and conductance) techniques. The recently suggested modified mechanism of the charging/discharging process for polythiophenes received further approval by studies on 3-methylthiophene (PMT) co-polymers. The pattern of the change in the charge capacity of the oxidized polypyrrole (PPy) film suggests -like in case of polythiophenes- the occurrence of the electric field induced phase transition. Thus, a common redox mechanism for the different polymers -distinguishing solvated and non-solvated polymer segments- is assumed.
