Abstract

X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy was applied in the comparative study of multiwall carbon nanotubes synthesized by catalytic process and arc-discharge graphite evaporation. The spectrum of the former kind of nanotube indicated an enhancement of density of π occupied states that, as semi-empirical AM1 calculation of model structures showed, may be due to the linkages between shells.
