Abstract

Abstract White-emitting phosphors Ba 5 CaAl 4 O 12 :Dy 3+ have been synthesized by a solid-state reaction method. X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra, as well as the effect of Dy 3+ concentration were investigated in detail. Upon 348 nm excitation, the emission of Dy 3+ ions is observed at 481 nm (blue) and 574 nm (yellow), corresponding to 4 F 9/2 → 6 H 15/2 and 4 F 9/2 → 6 H 13/2 transitions, respectively. With increasing the doped Dy 3+ concentration in Ba 5 CaAl 4 O 12 :Dy 3+ phosphors, the yellow-to-blue intensity (Y/B) ratio increases gradually. Furthermore, the CIE color coordinates can be adjusted around white light by changing the doped Dy 3+ concentration. When co-doping with Na + as charge compensator, the emission intensity of Ba 5 CaAl 4 O 12 :Dy 3+ increases obviously. The optimal doped Na + concentration is 4 mol% for Ba 5 Ca 0.96 Al 4 O 12 :0.04Dy 3+ samples.
