Abstract

In recent years, several failures of reinforced aerated concrete [AAC] roof panels have occurred in public buildings in the UK. In September 2023, 104 schools were closed due to this. This has sparked a pan-European discussion on the safety of reinforced AAC masonry structures. This article concerns the safety of Polish reinforced aerated concrete and foam concrete structures. The work describes the reinforced structures used in Poland in the past and present. It describes the results of tests on reinforced AAC lintels conducted at the Silesian University of Technology. Based on the test results, an analysis of the safety of reinforced structures was performed.
