Belite in cements with low emission of CO2 during clinker formation
Source abstract
Abstract
The damage of concrete was characterized by the permeability evolution due to cyclic water freezing. The measurements have been performed on concrete specimens with different water-cement ratios [w/c = 0.4 and 0.5] without air-entraining admixtures. The change of compressive strength was also controlled along with freezing cycles. The alteration of pore size distribution was investigated for cement mortars [w/c = 0.4 and 0.5] by means of mercury intrusion porosimetry test. In the case of w/c = 0.50, one can observe an increase in transport parameters such as the intrinsic permeability coefficient. For w/c = 0.40, it can be noticed a lack of ice-induced microstructure degradation. With the increasing number of freeze and thaw cycles, no further destruction of the transport properties was noticed.
