Abstract

Steplike electronic band potentials (band offsets) in core/shell CdS/CdTe nanocrystals (see picture, ML=monolayer) can be tuned between quasi-type-II and type-I regimes by controlling the CdTe shell thickness. The nanocrystals are characterized by transmission electron microscopy, elemental analysis, and optical measurements. These heterostructured nanocrystals show efficient quasi-type-II emission profiles, useful for lightelectron conversion technologies.
