Mechanical properties and erosion resistance of VAE-modified gangue-based sidewall filling material
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract Traditional gangue-based roadway sidefill materials exhibit rigidity, which, in deep, acidic, and high-stress environments, leads to stress concentration, resulting in cracking and failure. This can cause roadway collapses and hazardous gas leaks, severely compromising mine safety and production. To improve the toughness and acid resistance of these materials, a high-molecular-weight organic polymer, Vinyl Acetate Ethylene Copolymer Emulsion (VAE), was incorporated during preparation as a modifier. This study investigated the effects of varying VAE content on the mechanical properties and acid resistance of the material. The results indicate that under standard curing conditions, the addition of VAE increased the flexural strength ratio at 7 and 28 days by 34.47 % and 37.51 %, respectively, transforming the material from brittle to ductile. Under acidic conditions, the blank control group exhibited severe deterioration in mechanical properties, while the addition of VAE progressively improved performance. After 28 days of curing with 6 % VAE content, compressive strength reached 22.82 MPa – a 52.44 % increase compared to the blank control – while flexural strength reached 7.52 MPa, representing a 27.67 % improvement. This significantly enhanced the material’s acid resistance. Considering both toughness and strength, a 3 % VAE content was determined to be the optimal dosage.
