Abstract

A radioisotope technique is proposed for inspection of an aluminum coating deposited on a substrate that was exposed to shot blasting. The technique is based on an assessment of a loss in weight of the coating as estimated by the data of the secondary emission induced by irradiation. Application of this technique has been tested during inspection of the heat resistance of turbine blades. Industrial testing allows a coating quality to be estimated within 2–3 min with an accuracy typical of the gravimetric technique.
