Radioisotope Diagnostics of the Degree of Corrosive Cracking in Flaw Zones
Source abstract
Abstract
The radioisotope technique of diagnostics of corrosive flaw zones with simultaneous estimation of their degree of cracking is proposed. The essence of the method consists in introducing a ferromagnetic powder into pores of cracks of the flaw zone subjected to corrosive cracking. After extracting the powder from the crack pores by means of a permanent magnet and the subsequent radionuclide gamma-quantum irradiation, the X-ray-fluorescent K-radiation of iron of the ferromagnetic powder is measured. The degree of corrosive cracking is estimated on the basis of the secondary radiation intensity. The method proposed may be promising for testing the degree of corrosive cracking in structures (or products) of power engineering, oil and gas industry and chemical industry.
