Abstract

The effect of preliminary magnetization of articles in closed and open magnetic circuits on the result of measuring the residual magnetization of specimens in an open magnetic circuit has been studied experimentally. It has been shown that the decrease in the residual magnetization of specimens with an increase in the magnetizing field after exceeding some threshold value is caused by the demagnetizing effect of the field of eddy currents appearing in a specimen moving in the nonuniform field of a magnetizing coil. It has been found that, other conditions being equal, the maximum measurement error is observed if the direction of preliminary specimen magnetization coincides with the magnetization direction during the testing. Following magnetization in fields with intensities of 24 and 40 kA/m, the influence on measurement error by the demagnetizing factor of specimens from materials with different magnetic hardness is estimated.
