Acoustic and Acoustic-Emission Properties of Metals under Torsional Strain
Source abstract
Abstract
Acoustic and acoustic-emission properties of rods from duralumin and bronze have been investigated under torsional strain up to the point of fracture. In the process of deformation, the longitudinal wave velocity at a frequency of about 10 MHz changes nonmonotonically. In the region of microcracking, the derivative of the sound velocity with respect to strain changes its sign, and this region is also characterized by a high intensity of acoustic emission and damping of acoustic waves. Relaxation times of aws have been estimated on the base of static and acoustic measurements.
