Abstract

Ultrasonic tests, metallographic studies, and mechanic tests of sheet samples resulted in the conclusion that shear acoustic waves generated by the electromagnetic-acoustic method are preferable to longitudinal waves in detection of discontinuities. From the viewpoint of a consumer, most discontinuities in rolled sheets of metal should be classified as “delaminations.”
