A New Method of Active Thermal Testing: Combination of Heating and Forced Cooling
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract We describe a new method of active thermal nondestructive testing consisting in the sequential application of heating and forced cooling of the surface of a test object. The results of numerical simulation and experimental data have demonstrated the effectiveness of combining heating and cooling in the testing of materials with a high level of radiation-absorbing interference. Optimization of the test procedure requires the correct choice of power and the moment of engaging forced cooling in order to stimulate the growth of temperature contrasts at the appropriate time points. An additional advantage of cooling is the reduction of the thermal load on the tested materials.
