Abstract

The localization of discrete acoustic-emission (AE) signals in the process of inspection often has a low accuracy. A probabilistic approach for evaluating the coordinates of each AE signal is proposed. It is intended to detect local areas in the background of noises or distributed AE sources. This approach is based on the probability of determination of the error as a function of other measured parameters of an AE signal. In particular, the relationship between the coordinate determination accuracy and the maximal amplitude of the signal and the time of its rise on a real object is considered.
