Experimental investigation of Lamb waves under laser excitation
Source abstract
Abstract
When a metal-plate surface is irradiated with a short laser pulse, the heated metal volume becomes a thermoacoustic radiator of pulses of elastic waves, including Lamb waves. Lamb waves were studied with piezoelectric transducers, which were either mounted on an edge of a plate or plunged into an immersion bath. The wave modes, the number of waves, and the radiation patterns of emission from plates to the water of the immersion bath were determined, and the velocities of propagating Lamb wave pulses were measured.
