Abstract

The capabilities of quarter-wavelength wear plates that are impedance-matched to half-wavelength piezoelectric plates for increasing the sensitivity of normal transducers are studied. No increase in the sensitivity is observed when a quarter-wavelength wear plate with a characteristic impedance equal to the geometric mean of the impedances of the piezoelectric plate and the tested medium is used.
