Evaluation of material degradation on the basis of ultrasonic tomography during the detection of scattered signals
Source abstract
Abstract
Evaluation of the operational degradation of materials using nondestructive methods is an urgent problem of materials science. The nucleation and accumulation of dispersed flaws in structural materials occur from the very beginning of their exploitation and lead to changes in material properties, nucleation of macrocracks, and finally damage. Phenomenological approaches, using both direct and indirect methods are used to study and evaluate flaws [1]. Fractography is a direct method. The measurement of “flaws” (as relative deviations from a standard value) in various physicomechanical characteristics (density, modulus of elasticity, or microhardness) and electrical resistance are classified as indirect methods.
