Reconstruction of a Media Boundary Based on the Spatial Distribution of Stray Magnetic Fields. III. A Method for Solving the Inverse Geometric Problem of Magnetostatics at Small Boundary Perturbations
Source abstract
Abstract
A procedure for reconstructing the shape of a ferromagnetic–air boundary is considered. The procedure involves solving the inverse geometric problem of magnetostatics based on results of measuring the stray magnetic field at the side of an article containing a flaw. The solution is built in the linear approximation, that is, for small amplitudes of perturbation of the boundary shape. It is shown that in this case, the Fourier spectrum of spatial distribution of the stray magnetic field is proportional to the Fourier spectrum of the boundary shape function. Using a computational experiment, examples of applying this procedure for studying the restoration of corrosion-damaged surfaces, surfaces of thread joints, and shallow flaws are considered. The principal possibility of using this procedure for measuring geometric parameters of boundary perturbations is shown.
