Improvement of Mix Design for Porous Asphalt
Source abstract
Abstract
ABSTRACT An improved mix design approach for porous asphalt is presented which is based on the packing theory for aggregate gradation optimisation, thus reducing the post-compaction effects of the pavement by traffic loads. The specimens produced by this mix design method were compared to a Swiss Standard mix from a job site. The results show that the theoretically designed mix well maintains both porosity and water permeability after over-compaction with a gyratory compactor at 60°C. Therefore, by producing a tighter aggregate skeleton in the mix, this theoretical mix design method may have a great potential to produce porous asphalt with a longer service life in field.
