Multilevel fatigue performance evaluation for rich bottom layer materials
Source abstract
Abstract
In this study, the fatigue properties of mixture, mortar, mastic and asphalt were investigated through a generalised time sweep fatigue tests in large strain control mode. A damage model was established to characterise the multilevel fatigue properties of rich bottom layer materials. The four-point bending test evaluates the fatigue properties of mixes, while the three-point bending test the fatigue properties of mortar. Furthermore, mastic and asphalt fatigue properties are evaluated through the time-sweep test. The material fatigue life decreases sequentially from asphalt to mixture under high strain levels. Strain levels are significantly higher in asphalt compared to the mixture, attributed to material heterogeneity and differences in stiffness. The fatigue performance of composite-modified asphalt material is superior to that of SBS-modified asphalt material. The damage model, established by applying the Weibull density function with stiffness modulus ratio as a variable, effectively characterised the evolution of multilevel fatigue damage in asphalt materials.
