Pareto-efficient utilisation boundaries of recycled asphalt pavement aggregates in roller-compacted concrete with Mohr-Coulomb parameter analysis
Source abstract
Abstract
This study investigates roller-compacted concrete (RCC) incorporating reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) aggregates (fine, coarse, and combined) with emphasis on the optimum utilisation boundaries determined by Pareto-efficiency analysis. A comprehensive experimental program, including modified Vebe, water absorption, sorptivity, flexural and compressive strength, and pre-set angular shear tests, was conducted to evaluate fresh and hardened properties. The shear test was further analysed through three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) simulations of computed tomography (CT)-scanned specimens. The Mohr–Coulomb constitutive parameters and shear strength properties of RAP-based RCC were determined for the first time in literature. Multi-objective response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to identify the Pareto-efficient utilisation boundaries of RAP aggregate in RCC. Results indicate performance-dependent limits for RAP use in RCC, with Pareto-efficient boundaries of 0–27% for coarse RAP aggregate and 100% for fine RAP aggregate. The findings provide novel insights into the applicability and sustainable integration of RAP in RCC.
