Crack resistance and self-healing evaluation of fluid mastic asphalt (FMA) mixtures with wide-range asphalt content design
Source abstract
Abstract
Based on MaFF method, the study innovatively designed FMA mixtures with a wide range of asphalt-aggregate ratio (7.0–13.6%). Through the SCB test, the influence of temperature on the crack resistance of FMA mixtures was studied in depth. The self-healing performance of the FMA mixtures was also studied, and the changes of the self-healing index at different temperature and confining pressure conditions were investigated. In the temperature range from −5°C to 25°C, some of their indicators were several times higher than the traditional HMA mixtures. Through the correlation analysis of crack resistance index and design parameters, it was found that the mastic design was the key to its crack resistance. In addition, the self-healing test results also showed that the self-healing performance of FMA mixtures was significantly improved compared with that of conventional asphalt mixtures. The study provides an innovative solution to effectively delay the problem of life reduction.
