Experimental research on the properties of basalt fibre reinforced cement stabilised iron tailings
Source abstract
Abstract
Cement stabilised iron tailings (CSIT) replace ordinary cement stabilised macadam (CSM) as semi-rigid layer in road construction, which can not only realise the recycling of solid waste, but also reduce the project cost. In this paper, the effect of basalt fibre content and length on the mechanical properties and durability of CSIT was studied. The effects of different contents (0%,0.03%,0.05%, 0.07% and 0.09%) of basalt fibres on the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and indirect tensile strength (ITS) of 4% cement stabilised iron tailings sand (CSITS, 0–5 mm) were studied. The effects of basalt fibre length (12, 18, 30 mm) on UCS, ITS, frost resistance, maximum structural strength (MSS) and temperature crack resistance index (TCRI) of CSIT were further studied by using CSIT-40 with maximum gravel size of 40 mm. The results of the cracking resistance of basalt fibre reinforced CSIT-40 are consistent with those of the frost resistance. The distribution characteristics of basalt fibre in CSIT-40 and the bonding state between basalt fibre and stone were studied by scanning electron microscope(SEM), and the working mechanism of basalt fibre reinforced CSIT-40 was obtained. Therefore, basalt fibre reinforced CSIT can be used as a semi-rigid base layer during road construction.
