Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive examination of sustainable materials and technologies in asphalt pavement construction aimed at achieving carbon neutrality. Through a meticulous review of existing literature, the study explores a diverse range of innovative approaches, including the utilisation of recycled materials, energy-efficient technologies such as warm mix asphalt and cold mix asphalt, and the incorporation of novel materials like carbon black, and snail shell ashes. The review highlights both the challenges and opportunities associated with these sustainable practices, emphasising the necessity for clear standards and specifications to facilitate the widespread adoption of recycled materials in asphalt pavements. Furthermore, the paper underscores the importance of continuous research and development to address environmental concerns and enhance the performance of sustainable pavement technologies. Overall, this review seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current state of asphalt sustainability practices and to inspire further advancements in the field.
