Abstract

The incorporation of high RAP imparts several pavement-related concerns, viz. long-term performance, stiffening effect, blending issues, and environmental burdens, thus limiting their use within 10–30%. An attempt has been made to compile the inferences and observations of past studies incorporating RAP in asphalt pavement. Emphasis was made on the adoption of a proper RAP management scheme to facilitate high RAP with little variability. Details of different strategic techniques, such as the use of rejuvenators, warm mix asphalt (WMA) technologies, binder grade bumping, and higher binder content, etc., for improving the RAP content have been described. Additionally, the challenges and remedial measures adopted in the existing studies have been reported. Overall, this review could provide an overview of the best strategies to improve RAP content. It could also assist in choosing the best practices for RAP stockpiles management to achieve a higher level of uniformity in asphalt mixture with high RAP.
