Abstract

This study proposes a low-cost, high-detection surface plasmonic resonance-photonic crystal fiber (SPR-PCF) sensor. The proposed sensor incorporates a noble silver (Ag) thin film with the magnesium fluoride (Mgf(_2)) dielectric layer. This composite metal-dielectric layer prevents silver oxidation and corrosion issues with an analyte. The full-vector finite element method (FEM) tool helps the numerical analysis of this proposed design in the refractive index (RI) values of 1.332, 1.337, and 1.342, respectively. The outcomes of this sensor indicate a high wavelength sensitivity, low leakage loss, high sensor resolutions, better figure of merit (FoM), and good sensor length. The main goal of this work is to develop the concept of plasmonic in PCF sensing technology. This PCF-SPR sensor’s design applies chemical, clinical diagnosis, and biomedical sensing applications.
