Advances in Selenium-Containing High Refractive Index Polymers
Source abstract
Abstract
High refractive index polymers (HRIPs) have emerged as key materials in the optical applications, including lenses, optical waveguides, and antireflective coatings, among others, because of their low density, excellent impact resistance, ease of processing, and cost effectiveness. Selenium, an analogue of sulfur in the chalcogen group, possesses much higher molar refraction than sulfur, enabling a higher refractive index. In this mini-review, we comprehensively summarize the recent advancements in selenium-containing HRIPs. Furthermore, this review evaluates existing limitations and proposes innovative strategies to address these challenges, thereby charting the course for future investigations.
