Abstract

Sprayable wound dressings, with their exceptional flexibility and superior adaptability to wounds of varying sizes and irregular shapes, offer promising therapeutic potential for large-area and complex wounds. Herein, an antioxidant sprayable dressing (SA/ multi -C 60 -O) was designed and prepared through covalent cross-linking between a water-soluble fullerene derivative ( multi -C 60 -O) and sodium alginate. The cross-linked structure was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and demonstrated excellent radical scavenging performance, achieving scavenging rates as high as 99.7%, 95.2%, and 97.8% against DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radicals (·OH), respectively, after 24 h of reaction at a concentration of 2 mg/mL. Intracellular ROS detection confirmed the antioxidant activity at the cellular level. Moreover, the dressing exhibited potent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with rates exceeding 95% at 2 mg/mL, along with favorable cytocompatibility and hemocompatibility. Animal experiments further revealed that the dressing significantly accelerated wound contraction and healing. Based on H&E and Masson’s trichrome staining, along with immunohistochemical analysis, we demonstrated that the dressing can effectively promote skin regeneration, collagen deposition, and neovascularization by alleviating oxidative stress and inflammatory responses, thereby achieving superior healing outcomes.
