Abstract

A nanocomposite of reduced graphene oxide/MoSe 2 /nitrogen-doped carbon (RGO/MoSe 2 /NC) was obtained by the in situ conversion of a composite composed of the organic molybdenum complex MoO 2 (acetylacetone)(1,10-phenanthroline) and graphene oxide. The as-obtained nanocomposite demonstrated a distinctive structure where ultrathin MoSe 2 nanosheets were uniformly distributed in the NC matrix that firmly attached to the RGO nanosheets. The NC and RGO not only provided a synergistic framework for electron transport and Li + diffusion but also helped to expose more active sites and buffer the volume changes of MoSe 2 during the lithiation/delithiation process. Notably, a lithium-ion-based dual-ion battery configuration with the RGO/MoSe 2 /NC nanocomposite and commercial graphite respectively serving as the anode and cathode was assembled, which demonstrated remarkable cycling stability, retaining 70% (70 mA h g –1 based on cathode at 2C) of its initial capacity after 500 cycles. Moreover, it exhibited a noteworthy reversible capacity and exceptional rate capability within the high operational voltage window of 2–5 V.
