Abstract

Because of their remarkable properties like biocompatibility, ultrasmall size, and tunable optical and electronic properties, silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) have been widely explored in numerous biological applications but have rarely been reported for super-resolution microscopy. Herein we present bovine serum albumin-protected AgNCs to specifically stain the lysosomes inside HeLa cells. We resolved a single lysosome with a maximum resolution of ∼126 nm using super-resolution radial fluctuation microscopy. We believe that in the future these clusters can be used as specific markers for other cell organelles and can further assist in the capture of real-time events.
