Performance based evaluation of chloride penetration resistance of high performance mortar with hollow microspheres developed for floating marine structures
Source abstract
Abstract
Due to the lack of land space from increasing population, number of marine structure construction has increased recently. In order to construct sustainable marine structures, the durability performance of concrete used for the construction in marine environments has to be guaranteed. Unfortunately, the service life of marine concrete structures is often significantly shorter than their designed life due to various aggressive factors from chloride filled environment. In this study, lightweight high performance mortar (HPM) with unit weight ranging from 1600 to 1900 kg/m 3 is developed to replace ordinary cement mortar mixed with hollow microsphere (HM), which can be used as a protective layer material to deter chloride penetration in floating marine structures. Lightweight HMs are used in HPM to reduce the dead load applied to floating structures. The developed HPM is investigated using SEM, XRD, compressive strength test, and NT-BUILD 492 chloride penetration test. As the HM replacement ratio increased, the compressive strength and chloride diffusion coefficient decreased to 8.4–18.7 % and 42.2–69.7 %, respectively. Furthermore, the chloride penetration resistance capacity was assessed using KDS 14 20 40 standard and ACI Life 365 program. The ACI Life 365 program calculated the longest chloride resistance life of 304.3 years at an HM replacement ratio of 86 %. In order to understand and find the overall relationship, the Bayesian probabilistic approach is used to analyze the chloride diffusivity of the 0–100 % HM replacement ratio as a function of time. Based on the analyses, 3D satisfaction curves are developed with the x-, y-, z-axis as the HM replacement ratio (0–100 %), the designed chloride penetration resistance life (50–300 years), and the satisfaction level (0–100 %), respectively. 양식의 맨 위
