Abstract

: Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strands offer superior flexibility and broad application potential, yet conventional anchoring systems face challenges such as structural complexity, high costs, and specialized tools. This paper introduces a crimped anchorage system for CFRP strands, characterized by its simplified design, cost-effectiveness. The system achieves efficient radial crimping through a modular approach, eliminating the need for complex mechanical components, while maintaining compatibility with traditional steel strand anchorages. A theoretical model has been developed to delineate the mechanical characteristics of this system. Furthermore, the influence of varying crimp depths and lengths on the system's anchoring efficacy is examined utilizing ABAQUS. After considering the effects of the above design factors, the failure modes, load-displacement behavior, stress distribution, and anchorage efficiency of CFRP strands with and without impregnation adhesive conditions were analyzed by static load tests. The results indicate that at a crimping depth of 0.36 mm, the system achieves an average anchorage efficiency exceeding 93.5% across varying crimping lengths. When the crimping length reaches more than 100 mm, the enhancement of anchorage force is not significant, but improving the uniformity of stress distribution along the CFRP strand is beneficial. Finally, the crimped anchorage system was applied to the Henan Anluo Yellow River Bridge.
