Abstract

We report nanoscale pyrenyl excimers induced by the self-assembly of a pyrene-based fluorescent probe, 12-pyren-1-yldodecanoic acid (PyDA), for rapid detection of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) in aqueous media. Under the optimized conditions, the sensing nanosystem exhibited fast response and high selectivity and sensitivity for the detection of TNT. Especially, it could distinguish TNT from TNP, which is the major interferent in most circumstances. The detection limit is as low as 5.0 × 10–9 M. It also can be used for qualitatively and quantitatively monitoring TNT in real samples.
