Abstract

The development of physiochemically stable multifunctional electrodes for energy conversion and storage is groundbreaking in the field of research for integrated devices. On that note, WS 2 /rGO/NiFe nanocages were designed by employing the Kirkendall effect, which were used as a counter electrode in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and asymmetric supercapacitors (ASCs). The WS 2 /rGO/NiFe nanocages exhibited a power conversion efficiency of 6.5% in the DSSC device. In the supercapacitor, the advantage of nanocage formation makes the electrolyte easily access the inner area of the electrode, resulting in an outstanding specific capacitance of 779.6 F/g at 1 A/g current density. The WS 2 /rGO/NiFe nanocages//AC device owing to multiple oxidation states of nickel and tungsten attains an energy density of 67.2 Wh/kg and power density of 1209 W/kg with a Coulombic efficiency and retention capacitance of 99.01 and 82.3% at 6 A/g current density after 6000 cycles. Thus, the findings unequivocally establish vast possibilities present in the implementation of WS 2 /rGO/NiFe nanocages as all-in-one electrodes, bestowing upon exquisite innovative electronic devices of supreme sophistication.
