Abstract

The preparation of hybrid silsesquioxanes-based nanoporous materials was achieved through Friedel–Crafts reaction of cage-type octavinylsilsesquioxane with ladder-type phenyl-substituted tricyclic silsesquioxane with 8–8–8-membered fused rings. The hybrid nanoporous materials exhibit good thermal stability and good porosity with SBET of 1273 m2 g–1 and Vtotal of 0.95 cm3 g–1. They also display an adsorption capacity of 1873 mg g–1 for Congo red (CR), 667 mg g–1 for methylene blue (MB), 301 mg g–1 for Pb2+, and 139 mg g–1 for Hg2+ and show superior cycling performance, which prove their potential for removing dyes and heavy metal ions from water.
