Abstract

A new medical metastable β -titanium alloy Ti–10Mo–6Zr–4Sn–3Nb was compressed isothermally over the temperature range of 710 °C to 810 °C and the strain rate range of 0.001 to 10 s −1 . The effects of deformation parameters on the structure and deformation mechanism were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The hot deformation behavior of the alloy was characterized by stress-strain curve, strain rate sensitive factor and processing map. The results showed that the flow stress decreased with the increase in deformation temperature and the decrease in strain rate. The strain rate sensitivity factor increased with the increase in temperature, and was stable after entering the single-phase region. The alloy had a narrow deformation field, which was suitable for deformation at a higher temperature and lower strain rate. In the process of deformation, dynamic recovery played a dominant role. Under high strain rate, flow localization and instability were prone to occur.
